Obverse | Mustafa Kemal Atatürk

Purple and brown tones dominate the design, while denomination values and Central Bank inscriptions are integrated around the portrait. Moreover, the 131 × 63 mm format gives the note a noticeably larger physical presence than the preceding 10 Lira P#193.

For collectors comparing the E7 denominations together, the Atatürk portrait provides continuity while the reverse of each value develops an entirely different historical or cultural theme.

Reverse | Mehmet Akif Ersoy & İstiklâl Marşı

The reverse centers on Mehmet Akif Ersoy, the poet who wrote the lyrics of Türkiye’s National Anthem, İstiklâl Marşı. His portrait forms one of the principal visual elements of the composition.

Beside him appears his house in Ankara, later preserved as a museum. Therefore, the design connects the historical figure with a specific location associated with his life rather than presenting only a portrait.

Most importantly, the reverse also incorporates the first two quatrains of İstiklâl Marşı. This makes P#194 particularly distinctive among Turkish banknotes because written national literature forms part of the artwork itself.

The Ankara Citadel provides the principal architectural backdrop on the reverse. Its fortified walls connect the denomination visually with Türkiye’s capital while complementing the portrait and literary elements associated with Mehmet Akif Ersoy.

As a result, the reverse brings together four closely related subjects: Ankara Citadel, Mehmet Akif Ersoy, his Ankara home, and the Turkish National Anthem.

Rather than using an isolated monument, the banknote therefore builds a broader cultural narrative around Ankara, literature, national identity, and the history of the Republic.

The E7 100 Lira was released in two principal series. Both retain the same Atatürk obverse and the same Mehmet Akif Ersoy, Ankara Citadel, house, and İstiklâl Marşı reverse design. However, their signature combinations differ.

The 1983 Series I carries the signatures of Osman Şıklar and Yavuz Canevi. Meanwhile, the 1984 Series II carries Yavuz Canevi and Zekeriya Yıldırım.

Therefore, collectors building a basic denomination sequence may need only one P#194 example. By comparison, specialist collectors can pursue both series according to signatures and prefixes.

Why Mehmet Akif Ersoy Makes P#194 Distinctive

By comparison, the 100 Lira P#194 moves toward literature, architecture, and national history. Thus, the series maintains Atatürk on the front while giving each reverse its own independent collector narrative.

Within the E7 sequence we are building, the 100 Lira P#194 follows the 10 Lira P#193. It therefore occupies the second denomination position in our developing set.

The jump from 10 to 100 Lira is also substantial. Consequently, P#194 moves the collection directly into a three-digit denomination while introducing a noticeably larger banknote format and a much more detailed reverse composition.
